Ghrelin is a peptide hormone with a direct or indirect effect on obesity and asthma. More data is needed to understand the effects of ghrelin on the control and pathogenesis of this disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of ghrelin in selected groups of children to identify the relationship between serum ghrelin, obesity and asthma severity. The study involved 401 school children were selected from the region of Najran and grouped into non-obese people with asthma, obese patients with asthma, obese non-asthmatics and controls (non-obese non-asthmatics). levels of ghrelin, interleukin (IL) -4, IL-5 and IL-21 were determined by ELISA.
The mean value of ghrelin were not significantly elevated in obese children compared with children of non-obese. The highest blood ghrelin values are in the non-obese asthma group. Serum ghrelin, IL-4 and IL-21 levels were significantly increased in children with asthma compared with children of non-asthma (p <0.05), and there was a significant positive correlation between ghrelin and IL-4, IL -5, and IL-21 in children with asthma.
Furthermore, ghrelin, the level of IL-4 and IL-21 were significantly higher in patients with uncontrolled asthma compared to controlled-asthmatic children (p <0.05). Asthma is a significant risk factor only for values higher ghrelin. This study provides evidence that supports the anti-inflammatory role of ghrelin in the pathogenesis of asthma. Asthma may be considered as an important determinant of the values of ghrelin were higher in children.
Serum Ghrelin Levels in Saudi Obese Asthmatic School-Children-Correlation with Interleukin -4, Interleukin –5 , and Interleukin -21. Anti interleukin – 5 -neutralizing antibody attenuates cardiac injury and cardiac dysfunction by aggravating the inflammatory response in the doxorubicin-treated mice.
Previous studies have shown that interleukin (ILS) are closely associated with doxorubicin (DOX) -induced cardiac injury. IL-5 is an important member of the family IL, and the study was conducted to investigate whether IL-5 affect DOX-induced cardiac injury and the underlying mechanisms. The heart of the IL-5 expression was first detected and the results showed that the heart of IL-5 levels were significantly lowered in DOX-treated mice, and IL-5 is mainly derived from the heart mo.
In addition, some mice DOX-treated received injections of antibodies anti-IL-5-neutralizing (NAB), and we found that treatment with mouse anti-IL-5 NAB significantly up-regulated levels of markers of myocardial injury, exacerbated cardiac dysfunction, increased M1 macrophages (mO1) and a decrease in M2 macrophages (MO2) differentiation, and promoted the expression of markers of apoptosis.
In addition, the effect of mouse IL-5 TLV on differentiation mo DOX-induced and its role in cardiomyocyte rat (MCM) of apoptotic cells detected in vitro, and the results exhibited that the mouse IL-5 NAB promoted differentiation MO1 but inhibited the differentiation of MO2 in vitro and commuted apoptosis the MCM cells. Our results found the mouse anti-IL-5 NAB aggravated DOX-induced cardiac injury and dysfunction by reducing the inflammatory response and myocardial cell apoptosis.
